Two finals, one afternoon
28-02-2026
On 28 February 2026, at Mapal Kangjeibung, the club played two Governor’s Cup finals on the same afternoon, and won them both.
The women played first. Captained by Thoudam Tanna, they met the Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team, and the score stood level at 2–2 after three chukkers. The fourth belonged to the club: three goals without reply, and a 6–2 win for the 21st Governor’s Cup Women’s Polo Tournament.
Then came the men, in a rematch. A fortnight earlier, X-Polo Club, Wangkhei, had beaten them in the final of the Dr Ksh Chourjit Singh Inter-District tournament. This time the club took an early lead, X-Polo came back in the third chukker, and it came down to the fourth. Leishemba’s goal made it 7–6 and won the 32nd Governor’s Cup Invitation title. He scored three in the final, Kaoba two and Rozer one. See the winning goal, frame by frame.
As the light went, both sides gathered on the ground with both trophies, the scoreboard still showing the last result of the day behind them, and then on the stage with the organisers and guests.
Our thanks to the Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association for the tournament, to both our opponents for two hard-fought finals, and to everyone who came to Mapal Kangjeibung to watch.
